World Suicide Prevention Day

The Catholic school environment within the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) is one that reflects the Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ, so that every student, staff, parent/guardian, and community member feels accepted and valued. It is a community where faith means to inspire hope and feelings of belonging.

Friday, September 10, 2021, is World Suicide Prevention Day. World Suicide Prevention Day provides an opportunity for us to increase our awareness and understanding about suicide.

This year’s theme is “Creating Hope Through Action.” Throughout this year, there is a commitment to work together to create a movement of preventative action, to recognize the impact of suicide and ultimately, to strive to prevent it. At times, the work of suicide prevention can feel overwhelming, but even small actions can make a huge difference.

If you are experiencing significant distress and feel you are not coping well, you may need additional support from a mental health professional or other health care professional. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call 911 or visit an emergency department.
