St. Mary’s Drumline is a place where everyone is welcome. For Jessica-Maria Cabral, who joined the squad soon after starting high school, the experience has been transformational. Not only has Drumline become a refuge from the bullying that she has suffered over the years, but it’s been an awakening, opening the door to new interests, new skills and most importantly, new friends.
There’s also the thrill of making music. “Everybody’s extremely supportive and everybody just wants to be there, they want to know who you are and they want to make something incredible that no one has ever seen before,” says Jessica.
Even if Drumline appears to be full, she adds, “we will always find a place for you.”
